Hype Math

What is Hype Math?

Various teachers are able to upload their courses on the website for a convenient learning opportunity. Students and parents are able to utilize the website at their convenience to complete lessons. Additionally, the website provides a free consultation to guide parents on the appropriate courses for their children.

Background

My teammates and I realized that we all had personally noticed children are losing interest in STEM courses. We wanted to create a website that would spark students' interest and retain their interest in order to learn these essential topics.

Project Overview

Problem

Hype Math wanted to further expand it's reach. Clients had utilized a web experience with some satisfaction. For ease of accessibility, creation of a mobile application that would be responsive to all sorts of screen sizes became the current goal.

Hype Math had a low-fidelity prototype and wanted us to redesign the wireframe. User Interviews were conducted to better understand exact feedback and pain points for parents.

User Analysis

I discovered a lot of apps/websites that had online courses but  little to no options existed specifically concentrating on STEM courses for children. Company leadership developed goals to provide convenience learning opportunities specifically targeting STEM students. We found so many examples for such websites but we wanted to have “education with fun”. As many parents were now working from home, the essential goal was to have engaging courses for children in order for children to remain focused on their courses while parents were working.

Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, schools and university closures created a new need to assist working parents with education options at home.

User Interview

My team and I conducted in-depth interviews and the responses were positive indicating that the majority of parents were interested in such an application that would provide educational assistance in the STEM space in a fashion convenient to parents and children.

Affinity Diagram

An affinity diagram helped us generate ideas and narrow our focus. After our interviews and thinking about how we could help these people, we were moving in too many directions. Through the diagram, we learned that it’s a major issue people where dealing with. More importantly, we learned how they preferred to research online education.

We were working on a strict timeline in an agile environment under which the solutions were to evolve through a collaborative effort of cross-functional teams. Adaptive planning and early delivery were imperative to ensure continuous improvement and evolutionary development. Our strategy looked something like this -

Wireframes

With the limited amount of time, it has limited features but Hype Math ensures it has a free consultation form where parents can fill out the form and can get 30-minute free consultation for their kids. Through that form it was much easier to connect with parents to obtain information on their children's education performance. Additionally, parents were able to provide feedback on positive aspects of the web app and recommendations for how the app could work better for their needs.

Apart from designing, the web-pages were developed by me using HTML, CSS and JAVASCRIPT. The entire journey of Hype Math was interesting for me.

Styling

We wanted to provide the best way educational experience for children in STEM courses like MATH and SCIENCE. You will notice the vibrant colorful web portal. As it can be difficult to keep kids engaged for a long period of time in front of a screen for coursework, we wanted the interface to be stylistically appealing and engaging. I feel most proud of our style guide and the meaning behind every element selected.

Hi-fidelity Designs

Reflection

This project had a lot of requirements with little time to iterate. To fully implement this, I would need much more testing. Testing and listening to the user is vitally important when building a web portal  specifically when it comes to educating kids.

My team and I learned how important information architecture is with an informational website.  My team and I tried our best to meet the goal which was to educate the kids for their better future and help them in every possible manner.

Thank you for taking the time to read my case study!
